Beats, Rhymes & Life (BRL)

Beats Rhymes and Life is a free hip hop therapy program operating through Children’s Services of Roxbury. We work with folks ages 14-24, utilizing hip hop music and culture as a means for therapeutic expression and intervention. We offer 12-16 week long groups where we have real world discussions, write hip hop songs, record those songs, and perform a showcase at the end. The youth get an opportunity to work with an experienced music artist, both in and out of the studio, and there is always a clinician to support whatever comes up. Artists and clinicians work together to run groups, as is the effective BRL model. Also, because we are connected with CSR, we can also easily refer youth and families to all of the wraparound behavioral health services offered there if more support is needed.
