Intersections: Equity and Engagement in Substance Use Services Conference

Conference Overview:
Hosted by the MA Bureau of Substance Addiction Services (BSAS), the Intersections conference brings together a diverse group of thought leaders, practitioners, and community members. Sessions invite audiences to explore innovative approaches, unique perspectives, and best practices to respond to the health and social inequities that impact individuals’ and communities’ relationships with substances.
At the intersections where race, gender, and other identities meet substance use, a coordinated network of resources holds the potential to create a tightly knit web of connections. This safety net produces a Wellness and Recovery Oriented System of Care (WROSC), drastically reducing the number of people who fall through cracks in our interwoven systems.
Conference Objectives:
Highlight the importance of health equity and community engagement in substance use services
Center identity-based needs, particularly those of BIPOC and other historically marginalized communities, as well as harm reduction and recovery principles
Create a platform for community members holding living and professional expertise on substance use topics to share their knowledge and perspectives
Who Should Attend?
Members of communities disproportionately impacted by substance use and those that serve them, public health and mental health professionals, social service providers, community leaders and advocates, individuals with lived and living expertise in substance use and related experiences, clergy and faith community leaders, program staff and leaders, professionals with decision-making power in public and private settings.
