Reading for Liberation
October 30, 2024 @ 5:30 pm - January 7, 2025 @ 6:30 pm
Reading for Liberation is here! Starting Wednesday, October 23rd, this youth-led program invites Black and Brown girls in 3rd-5th grade to explore diverse stories and engage in discussions that inspire self-discovery and critical thinking.
The Reading for Liberation Book Club is a unique opportunity for participants to cultivate meaningful relationships, deepen their understanding of themselves and their communities, and enhance critical thinking and literacy skills. Through engaging discussions and exploration of diverse stories, girls in the program embark on a journey of self-discovery, building connections that extend beyond the pages of the books. Join us in this empowering space where personal growth, community enrichment, and the development of essential skills converge.
Our hybrid reading program will meet on a weekly basis on Wednesdays from 5:30-6:30 PM. Each week, girls will have an assigned reading to complete before the session. To ensure accessibility and inclusivity for all participants, we will be hosting read-aloud sessions starting at 5 PM. These sessions are designed to support anyone who may prefer listening to the reading or who requires additional assistance.
